Getting back to the office

What to expect when employees come back to work

It’s been a year and a half since the world shut down due to COVID. Many people once viewed working from home as a luxury, but are now seeing it as a necessity.

We’ve adjusted to working from home, and working with new apps to stay connected.  COVID has produced many changes in the way we view “work,” and living through it has produced many changes in the way we view our work day.

Many companies have set a new timeline for Fall 2021 to get back to a sense of normalcy, but with the Delta variant on the rise, some have opted to push this out to 2022.

If you are one of those companies who are set to return this Fall, here are some things you should expect before your return.

Employee awkwardness

The anxiety of returning may be high as many will need to relearn how to socialize and get along with their coworkers again.

Employee control

survey conducted by Morning Consult polled 2,000 adults working full-time.

87% of workers who currently work remotely prefer to continue working remotely at least one day a week, post-pandemic.

68% say a hybrid workplace model is best.

42% of current remote workers say if their employer doesn’t continue to offer remote work options long-term, they’ll look for a company that does.

The assumption that things will go back to the way they were pre-Covid would be a massive error in judgement. Previously, employers had a majority say in where their employees did their work, but since the pandemic,  employees now hold majority.
