5 ways to identify a scam
Email phishing is one of the most common forms of cyberattacks. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to spot a scam, but being educated on what signs to watch out for will most definitely save you a lot of time, energy, and money down the road.
Here are the top 5 signs of things to be aware of:
- Spelling and misinformation
This may require a tiny bit of research, but if the message is coming from a source that you are unfamiliar with then researching them could be helpful. Search for contact information, web urls, logos, etc. and compare them with the email you received. Identify if there are any misspellings or a sender email address that has the wrong domain. - Malicious code
Be aware of anything including code such as downloads or links that have misspellings. - Shortened links
Do not click on any shortened links. These are often used to fool the spam filters. - Fake brand logo
Review the message for any logos that look real because they may contain fake, malicious HTML attributes. - Minimal text
Ignore emails that have only an image and minimal text because the image might be hiding malicious code.
