Cybersecurity has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds. It is a topic that will continue to come up as cyber criminals continue to find ways to exploit vulnerabilities with login credentials, software vulnerabilities, and web shells.
Earlier this year, Microsoft announced at their annual Microsoft Inspire conference, their plan to collaborate with several partners. With this partnership, they could assist with providing better data protection and platform security to clients’ windows servers, Microsoft azure stack HCI, and Azure-certified loT devices.
According to Microsoft, Secure-core servers take on a defensive strategy of protection from security threats.
Secure-core servers are built around 3 pillars:
- Protect the server infrastructure with hardware-based root of trust
- Defend sensitive workloads against firmware attacks
- Prevent access and the execution of unverified code on systems
If there was another attack like the REvil ransomware attack that occurred earlier this year, Microsoft claimed this server would make it much harder to crack. The HVCI alone would block any foreign driver attempting to tamper with the system. Virtualization-based security is automatically enabled, which can hide credentials. Without those, most attackers give up.
Secured-core servers are available not only in Azure Stack HCI, but also Windows server catalogs. The servers come with industry-leading security already built into the hardware and operating systems.
